NASHUA, N.H., May 12, 2010 – Getronics has teamed with ConverterTechnology to reduce the cost, time and risk associated with upgrading Getronics’ clients’ desktops to the latest Microsoft Office software.
Getronics, one of Europe’s leading Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service providers, will make ConverterTechnology’s OfficeConverter tool suite part of the Rapid Deployment eXperience (RDX ) solution portfolio to aid clients in migrating to the latest Microsoft operating system and Office version.
With a growing number of companies choosing to perform complete “desktop transformations” –
upgrading both operating systems and desktop business software simultaneously – RDX helps them discover potential problems and prevent lost productivity that often threatens major enterprise-wide software upgrades.
OfficeConverter will help Getronics protect clients’ mission-critical files and data. It makes the Office migration process fast and reliable by automating many of the labor-intensive file conversion functions. OfficeConverter identifies all of the files that should be converted, flags problematic files and fixes problems automatically to ensure the migration goes trouble-free. The technology will help Getronics’ clients preserve all the special knowledge, macros, custom code and other functionality behind their files. Besides preventing business disruptions, using OfficeConverter also helps Getronics’ clients to seamlessly move to the new Microsoft Office XML file format that was introduced with Office 2007, creating opportunities for better cross-application information exchange and potentially saving storage costs as the OXML file format is much more efficient.
“If our clients’ files suddenly stop working, their business continuity is threatened. OfficeConverter will enable us to provide the best possible upgrade experience while mitigating risk,” said Daan Linden, director business solutions, Getronics Consulting.
Once file, application and hardware readiness has been assessed, an effective migration strategy can be defined and image building and zero-touch deployment can begin. The automation capabilities of OfficeConverter and other RDX tools minimize the need for human involvement, reducing the most expensive and time consuming aspects of an enterprise-wide desktop migration. Getronics will use four key OfficeConverter tools to mitigate file problems:
- DiscoverIT – which identifies all files on the network so IT staff can determine which files need to be converted
- ScanIT – which marks known compatibility issues such as invalid Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) references
- ReportIT – which generates detailed reports IT managers can use to make smart decisions about which files to convert, how and when
- ConvertIT – which fixes up to 97 percent of compatibility issues, increasing IT staff productivity by minimizing hands-on development efforts to fix problems.
